Daddy's Little Princess
By Tamar Pedersen
When your mother and I
were young and looking to the future
How we longed for a child
It seemed we waited for years.
There were so many nights
We prayed beside an empty cradle.
Then God sent a little princess.
How you filled our home with cheer.
Chorus:
And I'll be holding you close
Keeping you safe
From those imaginary dragons.
I'm gonna chase them all away.
At night I watch you sleep
In a castle made of dreams.
You'll see, your Daddy's Little Princess
And you will always be
As you grew from a child
Each night we'd kneel by your bedside.
I would teach you to pray
And then I'd tuck you in tight.
I still remember when you told me
You said your real prayers without me.
You only said one with me
So I'd still kiss you goodnight.
Repeat Chorus:
And now your all grown up
I'm standing in your empty bedroom.
Today you called me up
Said you were looking for rings.
When I signed up as your father
I wish that someone would have told me
That someday my little princess
Would be someone else's queen.
Bridge:
They say that little girls grow up.
I guess I've finally been convinced.
While I was out there chasing dragons
You were smitten by a prince.
Chorus:
And he'll be holding you close
Keeping you safe
Eventhough those childhood dragons
Have long since gone away.
He will watch you sleep in a castle made of dreams.
How happy you will be.
But your still my little princess
Even if your someone else's queen.
Daddy's Little Princess - About
This song is dedicated to our daughter Natasha, and her soon to be husband, Kesner. Their wedding date is April 27th, 2006. I can't believe my little princess is all grown up now. We decided to write this song to help them commerate the occasion.
The verses each tell an intimate story about my experiences with Natasha while she was growing up, first, as my wife and I prayed for a child, by a cradle in an empty bedroom, then as I prayed with Natasha as a child, and finally as I stood in her empty bedroom again, as I realized she was all grown up, and is leaving to be married.
My pet name for Natasha was always "My Little Princess". I still call her my little princess today, and always will.
