Now I Can Fly
By: Tamar Pedersen

He was only four years old. A little Haitian orphan boy.
With no mom and dad. His face was so sad. His world had been destroyed.

Then one day an old man came with something for the orphanage.
He brought a swing-set, and gave it to the kids.

Verse 2:
So the kids all ran outside, and each one took a turn.
But he was too small to ride, he stood at the side. Seemed nobody was concerned.

Then a young woman took his hand, and they went swinging towards the sky.
The woman's heart was broken when he cried,

Chorus:
And he said, Now I can fly up high with Jesus.
It feels just like I have wings.
Now I can fly up high with Jesus.
And together they reached heaven on a swing.

Bridge:
The woman hitched a ride to heaven that day.
Her ticket there was the smile on his face.

Chorus:
And she said, Now I can fly up high with Jesus.
It feels just like I have wings.
Now I can fly up high with Jesus.
And together they reached heaven on a swing.
And together they reached heaven on a swing.

Now I Can Fly - About

Miguel on Swing This song tells the true story of a young orphan named Miguel. We first heard about Miguel's story through our daughter, Natasha. Natasha has always had a soft spot in her heart for orphans, and from a young age she started making pencil sketches of children in need. When she heard Miguel's story she called us in tears, and shared his experience with us.

She told us how Miguel and his sister had tragically lost their parents and had ended up in an orphanage in Haiti. Natasha's husband also happens to be from Haiti, which brought Miguel's story even closer to home for us.

When Miguel was only four years old, he and his little sister Julise saw their parents killed by robbers, and the children were definitely tramautized by the experience. Miguel would occasionally speak in response to a question, but for weeks no one could get him to smile. Natasha related that someone had donated a swing set to the orphanage, but Miguel had never been on a swing and was too small to get up on his own. Finally, a volunteer caregiver helped him on the swing, and as he flew toward the sky he started smiling, then giggling, and then he started shouting over and over in Creole, "Thank you Jesus, I'm finally flying." Miguel's healing started there and he and his sister became happy children and are now living with their adoptive family in Pennsylvania.

When we heard this story we decided that it needed to be put to music. We have a soft spot in our heart for adopted children, as two of our own children are adopted. We hope that this song can be used as a tool to help raise funds to further the cause of helping little children like Miguel. Please consider making a donation to the A Child's Hope Foundation.
