Just One Leap
By: Tamar Pedersen

We'd been driving all day long,
But started wondering were we wrong.
Was this little boy our child?
The questions grew with every mile.
But still we'd waited for so long.

But when the moment came,
You jumped straight to my wife,
With a face that seemed to say,
"I've been waiting all my life.
What took you guys so long?"
Now you were right where you belonged.

Chorus:
And with just one leap, our fears are gone.
And with just one leap, we knew you were our son.

All our questions were erased,
By the smile upon your face.
A new chapters begun,
with just one leap.

Verse 2:
And now it's time to jump again,
Now that you've become a man.
These tears don't mean were sad.
Were happy for the years we had.
We know it's all part of God's plan.

It's true were always known,
That you were only here on loan.
Another father needs you now,
To help save the world somehow.
And with that smile you let us know,
That it's time to let you go.

Chorus: (2x)
And with just one leap, our child is gone.
And with just one leap, look what you have become.

And the world's a better place,
For the smile upon your face.
A new chapters begun,
with just one leap.

With just one leap.

Just One Leap - About

We wrote this song for our oldest son, Kjarom, and shared it with him just before he left to serve as a missionary in Brazil.

When we decided to adopt, we were not sure what to expect. It was an emotional roller-coaster, not knowing from one day to the next, when we would be getting our child. Finally we got the call, that our child was waiting for us! We drove from our home in New Jersey, to North Carolina to pick him up. On the drive down Katrina became very nervous. What if this was not the right child for us? I tried to reassure her that everything would be OK. When we got about ten miles away then I started asking my wife if we were doing the right thing.

When we reached North Carolina, it was the middle of the night. They woke up our son, and brought him to the kitchen to meet us. He was only four months old, and we were worried he would be in a bad mood. The moment he saw Katrina, he lit up an electric smile, and jumped straight to her arms. You can't imagine my relief. He sealed the deal with that smile. There were no more questions after that. He was our son!

Kjarom's Pearly Whites He is all grown up now, but still has that same magic smile. When we found out he was planning to leave on a mission, the family got together from around the country, to see him off. Katrina and the kids flew out a week before me, to help him prepare. I had to work, so I flew out later.

I decided it would be a nice going away present to write a song for Kjarom. I finished the last lyrics on the plane. When I arrived, I told my wife we had to find a piano, so we could get this song ready to share with our son. The song came together in one session. I wish it was always that easy! The song was ready just in time.

Kjarom was never the emotional type, but when we sang this song for him, he cried like a baby. We couldn't be more proud of the man he has become, and what he is doing with his life now. It makes me want to smile.
