In That Day
By: Tamar Pedersen

The young mother could see a golden opportunity to teach her child
The rain on her car window had slowly died
And up ahead rays of light pierced through the clouds it seemed to be
As if someone had left heavens door standing open wide
Then she gently told her daughter "that's the way that it will be
When Jesus comes from heaven trailing clouds of majesty"
With the faith of a child, she trusted every word
Then she said, "Mommy tell me more", her interest had been stirred

Well In that day He'll come with his angels
On eagle's wings flying through the sky
And in that day he'll call us up to meet him, he'll teach us how to fly
And in that day I'm sure he'll gather the children
and take the time to hold each one in his arms
And in that day we'll lay down our burdens, he'll keep us safe from harm

Any other day the trip to church would have been a fight
But today the little girl was eager to run inside
Then on the way back home that night the girl began to cry
Her mom asked what was wrong but wasn't ready for her reply
Her daughter cried, "we missed it"
What did her child mean?
"I thought we were meeting Jesus, I've been waiting where's he been?"
When the light came through the clouds that day the girl thought it was time
But since the sun had set, the girl thought Jesus her behind
The mother had been startled by this innocent display
Her tears now mingled with her daughters, she was reminded of the day
When her own faith had been stronger, how did she let it slip away?
She would be more like her daughter come what may

Well In that day (In that day) he'll govern the nations
(all men will bow before him)
The king of kings (King of Kings) and lord of lords (and lord of lords)
And In that day (in that day) He'll start a new world order
(he will make plowshares out of swords)
With plowshares made of swords
And in that day (In that day) he'll come with his angels
(Angels will gather around him)
On eagles wings (on eagles wings) flying through the sky
(flying through the sky)
And in that day (in that day) He'll call us up to meet him
(he's going to teach us how to fly)
He'll teach us how to fly

In That Day - About

One Sunday, I had been gone from home the better part of the day, in various church meetings. I called home before the last meeting was starting, just to say hello to the ones I love the most. I missed them, and was looking forward to coming home.

After our phone call, my wife called all of the kids together at home, for an emergency huddle. She asked them if they would like to surprise Dad, and all run down to the church, to say hello to Dad after his meeting was over. They all hurried and got dressed, and hopped in the car.

It had been raining that day, and as the storm ended, my wife could see she had a golden teaching opportunity. Like any good mother would do, she took advantage.

She pointed out the window to the rays of light that were just breaking through the clouds. She explained that this is what it would look like the day that Jesus came again. The kids were all questions, and the remainder of the trip my wife fielded questions.

The sun had already set by the time we were all on our way home together. Our young daugher, Nadja, was whimpering in the back seat of the car. At first, we jumped to the conclusion, that one of the kids had hurt her feelings, and when we tried to find out who, she just cried all the more.

When she was finally able to speak, all she said was, "We missed it."

We couldn't figure out what she was talking about. Then she cried that Jesus had left us behind.

Suddenly, it hit Katrina, that our daughter thought they were going to meet Jesus at the church. Nadja thought that the ray of light coming through the clouds meant Jesus was coming now. When the sun had set, and Nadja had never met Jesus, she thought he had left her behind.

We were awestruck by her simple faith. We were humbled as our child taught us what real faith was all about. We determined that we needed to prepare ourselves for the day when Jesus really does come again.
